Beste mensen en in het bijzonder, beste juristen bemiddelaars.

Ik ben blij jullie op de hoogte te brengen van een uniek congres in Boston met als thema : de samenwerking tussen de praktijk van het recht en "sociaal" werk. Dit congres wordt georganiseerd door ICCFR een organisatie waarvan ik reeds 20jaar het jaarlijks congres bijwoon. Een congres waarin de uitwisseling van kennis en ervaring tussen mensen van over de hele wereld centraal staat eerder dan dagenlange toespraken.

Aan dit congres gaan we nu reeds met een 10 tal Vlamingen deelnemen en ik ben bijzonder fier dat de inzending van 3 van onze Mediv medewerkers zijn uitgeselecteerd en dat zij elk een unieke bijdrage mogen leveren. Zo zal Eric Lancksweerdt, eerste auditeur bij de Raad van State een keynote presenteren over en Recht en persoonlijke ontwikkeling. Schuldbemiddelaar Jo Van campenhout zal een workshop geven over schuldbemiddeling als brug tussen recht en sociaal werk. Advocaat-bemiddelaar Irene Dijkmans zal een workshop geven over haar aanpak om als advocate de mensen uit te nodigen tot bemiddeling.

Boston is bovendien de geboorteplaats" van "interest based negotiation" in de Harvard University.

Collaboration Instead of Collision:
Family Law, Social Policy and Joint Practice.

Family Lawyers, social workers, mental health professionals, and governmental social policy departments all have something critical in common – they work to protect and provide for the welfare of children. But they often approach this important work in different ways, which sometimes leads to misperception and misunderstanding.

This conference will explore ways in which the various professions that work for children can collaborate to strengthen and enrich the services they provide to children and families rather than to work in collision with one another.

Keynote presentations from different parts of the world, backed up by workshops allowing participants to share and learn experience and skills, will form the major part of this conference.

Presentation of Best Practices on Friday 15 June 2012:
On this day a plenary meeting will be scheduled to present some international best practices. The meeting aims to provide a platform for interesting cases, which will be presented through printed or visual media and/or short oral explanations, each presentation taking about 10 minutes.
